Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting extended matchup where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate 51 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American viewership was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
