The winter transfer window is always a period of intense rumour and potential major deals. A number of prominent players find themselves linked with moves away from their current clubs. Here is a look at a selection of the top names that could be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the forward in contention, it appears an important move is imminent. This 25-year-old has a deal with a £65 million buy-out clause active for a brief period at the start of the month. Recent reports point to Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. Former interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to other options, potentially opening the door for teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

The England defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer move to Anfield falling through. As his contract due to expire in the summer, this represents the London club's last chance to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of elite sides, such as City and several continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a January exit remains unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the player.

B. Johnson

This Wales winger has found first-team opportunities limited at Spurs this campaign. Despite finishing as the club's top scorer last season, he has started only a handful of league games. It is understood the North London club is willing to consider a sale for the right price, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he would be willing to accept a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced Germany shot-stopper finds himself as third-choice at Barcelona following new manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a winter exit looks highly probable. Aston Villa were initially linked as a possible destination, but that option currently seems off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly expressing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The prolific England centre-forward has continued scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of making the national squad. However, arranging a deal poses major challenges. His current club do not wish to sell him, and his alleged huge weekly wages render any move complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been mentioned as interested parties.

The highly-touted Dutch teenage midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following starring at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is widely expected to complete a major move this month. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but could face stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
